The Brief.

Working closely with the Drama department to create visuals that compliment the staging and direction of the performance.

Productions are typically performed by senior school pupils, however advertising is displayed throughout the College, so needs to be suitable for a younger audience.

A Christmas Carol.

The College performed Mark Gatiss’ retelling of Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, a decidedly darker take on the story. I wanted to reflect this in the artwork and chose to use the candle flame motif as a central focal point. It burns through the dark blue tones and almost disguises the deathly skull that surrounds it.

The 39 Steps.

The two dimensional graphics feel suited to the comic tone of the play, whilst the vintage colour pallet and typeface pay homage to the visual styles of the 1910’s – in which era the play is set – without venturing into the obvious art nouveau graphic style of this period.

Lord of the Flies.

There are many literary motifs in Lord of the Files, it was a challenge to put a new visual spin on this classic novel.

The pig head graphic was hand drawn and digitised, then further distressed to create a block-print effect. The typography was also hand drawn to be deliberately haphazard. I wanted the effect to be childlike and desperate, and used charcoal to mimic the effect of using a stick in the sand.
